Circus Juventas schedules workshops and camps during the summer months. Below is an example of selections we offer. Please check back next summer for our 2007 selection.

Buon Giorno! This year's exciting full and half-day weeklong camps explore the historical tradition of the circus arts and a glimpse at the rich traditions of the Venetian Carnivale, providing a whole summer of artistry, skill and challenges. Our summer programs introduce students to the vast array of global circus arts techniques in our friendly, supportive, non-competitive environment. Each full-day Challenge Camp will also explore leather mask-making, Comedia del'Arte clowning, set-design, theatrical make-up, and art projects based on the Italian Carnival.

    • Discover strength and grace on the Static Trapeze, Spanish Web, Hoops,
        and Low Casting...
    • Increase flexibility with Acrobatics, Jump-Rope, Hand Balancing, and Pyramids...
    • Perfect balance with Low Wire, Unicycle, Globes and German Wheel..
    • Build confidence with circus-style theatre and stage presentation
    • Hone mental acuity with Juggling and Diablos.

We offer one day workshops and our favorite teen program, Teen Adventure Camp. You've heard the buzz, now come in and check out Circus Juventas for yourself! Unforgettable thrills and summer fun abound under the Big Top!

Different Daily Emphasis

In addition to introducing students to each of the basic elements of circus, each day of the week at summer camp will feature a different emphasis:

MondayS: We'll set off in style for a bon voyage to Italy with popcorn, music and more! Enter into the mystical, magical world of the circus arts, masks and intrigue.

TuesdayS: Explore the fundamentals of everything acrobatic, juggling, aerial, and balance! We'll cap off our Venetian holiday with designing your own leather Venetian mask

WednesdayS: Andiamo to the elaborate designs of the Circus Juventas August show set. Create your own Trompe l'oeil version of a painted theatre set with one of the Twin Cities top art educators. Continue your journey into the circus arts and discover Hand Balancing and Pyramids, Low Casting, Spanish Web, Unicycle and Globes!

ThursdayS: We'll finish our Carnivale masks, discover the antics of the stock characters of Commedia del'Arte and have a final go at Acrobatic Jump-Rope, Hoops, Silks, and German Wheel.

FridayS: It's Show Time - We'll begin our performance day with the mystique of the theatrical make-up of Carnivale! Then we'll turn on the spotlight for family and friends and your best circus smiles! Our performance days are an unforgettable experience for all.

Circus Attire

It is suggested that students wear comfortable workout attire.  Leotards, unitards, sweat pants, and windpants are all acceptable.  No jeans or street shoes are allowed.  Athletic shoes/socks are acceptable on the equipment.  Students should not wear t-shirts unless they can be tucked into pants.

Lunches

Students need to bring a bag lunch everyday except Thursdays when Circus Juventas will provide a festive Italian lunch and performance by our international instructors.

Day Bag

Help your camper stay organized by providing a day bag. It makes an ideal place to store a lunch box and a water bottle. Many campers enjoy having a mid morning and mid afternoon snack. During barefoot activities, some campers have kept track of their tennis shoes and socks by placing them in their day bag. Please remember to put your child's name on everything!

Health, Liability and Safety Info

Forms will be mailed with camp confirmation to new students. Completed forms must be returned prior to the first day of camp or students will not be allowed to participate. For returning students, health forms must be updated annually. New health forms will be sent if current forms are a year or more old. It is the responsibility of returning students to keep health forms current!

Performances

Friday performances for Full-Day Challenge Camps for family and friends are held at 3:00 pm on the last day. There will be an informalinteractive period at the end of the week for half-day and teen adventure week camp sessions.

Staff

Our professional and international instructors come from around the globe and have performed with circuses all over the world including the Mongolian State Circus and Cirque du Soleil circuses. Our student instructors, with years of experience in our program, will assist our main coaches. An American Red Cross certified aid will be on hand.

The Big Top

Our amazing 21,000 square foot facility boasts an AIA award for design, and comprises 12,000 square feet of training areas with 40 foot ceilings. The state of the art arena is climate controlled, and equipped with private girls and boys locker rooms and catering facilities. We're situated on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River Valley in the heart of the park district of Highland Park, so the view is great indoors and out!
